More than 130 male and female volunteers from Dhi Qar branch of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society started offering first aid and medical care for the visitors walking towards Karbala’a as soon as they took their first steps.
Amer Hameed, the branch director in Dhi Qar, stated that “the Red Crescent teams started providing medical services and first aid to the visitors heading towards Karbala on foot, with the participation of 135 volunteers, male and female, through 5 detachments in Nasiriyah Al-Chibaish, Suq Al-Shuyoukh, Al-Shatra and Al-Fajr areas”.
He said, “Health services are provided through a mobile medical clinic supplied with an experienced medical staff, medicines and treatments offered free of charge for visitors, in addition to the presence of fixed and mobile first aid detachments.”
Amer Hameed also said that a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining good personal hygiene and preventing communicable diseases will run concurrently with the Red Crescents’ teams provision of health services. This campaign will involve dispersing posters and brochures to owners of processions that are spread out along the routes that visitors take throughout the governorate.
