Due to the fierce battles that took place at Fallujah recently, a large numbers of displaced families has flee toward Ameriyat Al-Fallujah and Habbanyah, as the latest statistics of Red Crescents’ teams refers to rising the number of displaced people to (68000) displaced people.
Within the enormous numbers of these families, the humanitarian situation is difficult growing which represented by food, water, housing, health services and humanitarian needs, as the field assessments of the Iraqi Red Crescents’ teams indicated that there are a large number of families who still need immediate interventions.
Rasol Hayawi, one of displaced people from Fallujah said “the security situation inside the city forced us to flee despite the high temperatures and to resort to displaced camps at Ameriyat Al-Fallujah. The living in tents in hot weather is unbearable, and now we get food through the Iraqi Red Crescent the matter which alleviates our problem”.
The latest wave of displacement prompted the Iraqi Red Crescent Society to mobilize abilities and redouble its efforts regarding the immediate response to the needs of displaced people. During the past few days the Society worked to intensify its relief campaigns through involving its branches at Baghdad, Babil and Najaf, in addition to its relief operations which carried out in Anbar.
Ahmad Kadhum, the head of Operations Management at the Iraqi Red Crescent said “Our volunteers took upon themselves immediately response to the needs of displaced people from Fallujah, and due to the nature and severity of the crisis we have involved three branches in relief operations, adding to our branch at Anbar”.
The Society is distributing daily more than (8000) loaf of bread through its bakeries which created recently to provide basic food material for the displaced, the Society also distributing daily more than 1,000 meals that are prepared in the kitchens recently opened in the camps, adding to distribute more than (42000) thousand bottled water. The Red Crescent implemented health services for more than (20702) displaced in the field of psychosocial support and first aid, the Society has also summoned a number of doctors to check medical cases in the camps of displaced people and provide them with treatment.
At the same time, Erbil governorate has witnessed displacement of more than 8,000 displaced people from Qayarah area at Mosul where there is a heavy fighting that forced a number of the city’s residents to seek refuge to camps of Depka area, while the Iraqi Red Crescent is working to help those displaced by distributing more than (1000) lunch meal daily.
