Basra has witnessed a severe shortage of potable water due to the high rate of salinity and water pollution. Medical sources have indicated that more than 2,000 people have been poisoned since the beginning of the current month because of the salinity in the water. In order to understand the repercussions of this humanitarian issue and starting from the principles of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS), the IRCS`s teams in Basra governorate have distributed more than 10,000 health set in the center of Basra and its districts, where this step comes within the efforts of the IRCS to alleviate the suffering of the people, and this activity coincides with the IRCS`s teams who have installed four (RO) desalination and purification units in each of the districts of (Abu Al-Khasib, Safwan, Shatt Al-Arab, Zubayr) with a production capacity (2000 liters/hour).
