As we might refer to the current generation of youngsters as a “technology-hungry generation” given that the majority of them insist on owning and using mobile phones, the widespread usage of mobile phones by children and adolescents for extended periods of time has seriously harmed them.
The Red Crescent Society implemented an activity on raising awareness of the excessive use of mobile phones by children and adolescents in the interest of the Red Crescent and the special attention it attaches to childhood, as well as its endeavour to complete their educational and educational route.
“The activity’s goal is to urge children and adolescent school students to use mobile phones appropriately and to clarify the drawbacks of excessive use and its impact on physical and psychological health,” said Ahmed Jalal, Communication coordinator for the Iraqi Red Crescent, Kirkuk branch.
Mr. Ahmed added, “The implementation of this awareness activity coincides with the summer vacation now, and the use of these devices by children for long periods, and from the principle of urging them to be busy and use them correctly and benefit from them in study and daily life in order to reach a better future.”
He also stated, “Through our educational activity, the focus of our research, we compiled and made reference to a long list of the short- and long-term harms that mobile phones cause young people, such as: headaches, eye and head pain, hearing loss, sleep disturbance, aggression, distraction, and social isolation. Moreover, the decline in educational standards and other factors”.
Moreover, he pointed out that the activity was published on many pages of schools in the province, in order to include the largest possible number of beneficiaries.
