For a Safer Life… Iraqi Red Crescent Trains the community in First Aid

Report by Hassan Hamza
The Iraqi Red Crescent (IRCS) has organized a series of first aid training workshops targeting various segments of society. This initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to promote community health awareness and develop life skills among broad segments of Iraqi society, including school and university students, employees of NGOs and production facilities, also the government staff and Ministry of Interior personnel across all governorates.

The above – mentioned workshops aimed to introduce participants to the concepts of first aid and its importance in saving lives and preventing injuries from worsening, it also aimed to equip participants with the essential skills for appropriate action during emergencies and sudden accidents, thus contributing to a culture of rapid and safe response within the Iraqi society.
The drills are conducted by specialized trainers from the Iraqi Red Crescent teams, included practical and theoretical explanations of how to handle a number of emergency situations, including loss of consciousness, bleeding, fractures, and suffocation, also training on the recovery position and the correct techniques for transporting injured individuals without exposing them to further complications. The workshops also included field simulations of hypothetical emergency situations, giving participants the opportunity to practically apply the information they had learned, this was complemented by theoretical lectures that reinforced their understanding of first aid principles and their vital role in saving lives.

These workshops witnessed widespread participation and engagement, reflecting the community’s awareness of the importance of learning first aid skills and their essential role in responding to accidents and emergencies. This also underscores the importance of continuing such training programs implemented by the Iraqi Red Crescent Society to serve the community and enhance its safety.
