With the beginning of their first steps, the IRCS detachments began providing medical services and first aid for the pilgrims walking to the city of Kadhimiya to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Musa Ibn Jaafar, peace be upon him.
(18) fixed medical detachments equipped with first aid supplies and treatment materials were deployed, also mobile medical detachments equipped with stretchers for transporting visitors in cases of fatigue or when injuries occurred, the medical detachments were divided into two main axes, firstly:- setting up (9) fixed detachments in the areas close to the Holy Shrine, and mobile detachments in the alleys and narrow sub-areas that ambulances cannot reach with the crowding of pilgrims, and the second axes is distributing (9) detachments on the roads taken by pilgrims coming from the governorates heading to Baghdad city.
The director of IRCS health department stated, “An operations room has been established, and an integrated plan has been developed for the tasks of the IRCS during the pilgrimage, also determining the volume of logistical needs to accommodate the yearly increase in the number of pilgrims.”
Dr.Ali the director of the IRCS health department Ali Majeed Al-Moussawi has continued that the coordination has been made with health institutions and security agencies to facilitate the work of the IRCS detachments which continue to work around the clock and throughout the days of the pilgrimage, as their work is not limited to providing medical and emergency services, but also includes awareness and guidance through the distribution of educational folders and posters of communicable diseases, additionally, avoid drinking expired or tainted beverages and eating exposed food that is provided for the pilgrims.
