The Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has provided food and relief aid to the families affected by heavy rain and flash floods that hit Wasit Governorate over the past two days, particularly those coming from the Iranian border, which were concentrated in the Sheikh Saad district.

According to the IRCS report, the floods inundated most houses in the villages of the above – mentioned district which prompted it to form a crisis cell that began conducting field surveys to identify the needs of the affected families in order to provide assistance.

The assistance included distributing food and relief supplies to 45 families in the villages of Ali Marda and Al-Rai'a in Al-Shahabi area, as part of an urgent humanitarian response to alleviate the suffering of the residents.

The IRCS confirmed that its relief teams are continuing to assess the extent of the damage to residents' property, especially since most of them are low-income earners who rely on agriculture as their primary source of livelihood, which was severely impacted by the devastating floods.
