Tehran (ICRC) / The IRCS Follow-up

The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Ms. Mirjana Spoljarić, arrived in Iran for an official visit.

During her visit, Ms. Spoljarić will meet with high-level government officials and representatives of the Iranian Red Crescent Society to discuss the humanitarian consequences of hostilities in Iran and the wider region, and to reaffirm the importance of international humanitarian law in protecting civilians and vital infrastructure during conflicts.

The ICRC President will also discuss practical arrangements in order to enable the organization to deliver more supplies to support relief efforts, including those of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, which is at the forefront of the humanitarian response.

Earlier this month, the ICRC delivered more than 170 tons of essential relief items to assist those affected by the conflict. Additional shipments of medical and forensic supplies are expected to arrive in the coming days.

Ms. Spoljarić's visit to Iran is part of a series of efforts by the organization in the region, as well as the ICRC's ongoing dialogue with the Iranian authorities. These bilateral discussions highlight the organization's direct engagement with all countries to garner respect for the rules of war.
