The Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has commemorated the historic humanitarian relief efforts undertaken by its teams in the cities of Mosul, Tal Afar, and Amerli. It recalled the urgent operations and the exceptional efforts carried out by the IRCS to aid hundreds of thousands of displaced and affected families in Mosul and its districts, also the Amerli district of Salah al-Din Governorate, during the siege imposed by the armed groups at that time.

The IRCS highlighted the major rescue operations that contributed to breaking the siege and providing relief to the displaced families on Mount Sinjar, who were trapped in dire humanitarian conditions. Due to the difficulty of accessing these areas by land, the IRCS urgently coordinated with the Iraqi Air Force’s Army Aviation, using helicopters from Muthanna and Erbil airports to airdrop and deliver food supplies and essential necessities, particularly baby formula, first aid kits, and other critical humanitarian needs. Within a short period, the IRCS field teams have successfully secured the basic requirements for hundreds of thousands of displaced people. These efforts included providing hundreds of thousands of hot meals and bottles of drinking water, as well as tens of thousands of ice blocks to combat the intense summer heat, and distributing tens of thousands of canned goods and food parcels to ensure the stability of families and alleviate the impact of the crisis.
