To improve and expand the assistance given to first responders and ambulance services, as well as to guarantee the fast treatment of any emergency communications, particularly in rural areas with inadequate medical care. For the purpose of transporting sick patients and injured people from medical facilities to the closest hospital relating to the Ministry of Health, the Iraqi Red Crescent Society with the support of the Norwegian Red Cross, has stationed ten ambulances across four governorates (Baghdad, Anbar, Nineveh, and Basra).

“We have worked to provide first aid syin order to facilitate access to health care services for local communities, especially in areas where it is difficult to reach health centers,” said Dr. Ali Al-Musawi, the director of the health department.

“More than (10,700) emergency cases were transported by ambulances, and first aid services were provided for more than 8,600 persons by the first responder teams in 2022”.

“Ambulances are equipped to deal with all emergencies,” he said, “as they are equipped with life-saving equipment, including heart rate monitors, respirators, oxygen devices, and many other medical items and tools.”

Al-Mousawey also added “the first responder team, whose work is within health centers to transfer sick cases and injuries from health centers to the nearest hospital, as well as providing field ambulance services to cases that do not need to be transported by ambulances”.
