In light of the environmental disasters that left destruction, victims and affected people, this course offered by Immap and in cooperation with the Swedish Red Cross for the IRCS cadres is one of the most modern systems applied globally to collect data managing disaster and crisis.
According to coach Honor Abdullah of the Immap organization, the aim of the course that was held in Baghdad is to qualify the cadres of the IRCS teams to use modern technologies (geographic information systems technologies) and (information collection management techniques) to enable them to manage crises and assist victims and those affected during disasters.
Abdullah added: “The Iraqi Red Crescent cadres have received training on how to design questionnaires for the purpose of conducting surveys, as the aim of these surveys is to enable the IRCS to collect the largest amount of information about the affected areas and to identify the numbers of people who need aid.”
The Eng: Mr. Ashraf Ali from the Department of rehabilitation and structure explained: “The participants in the course held for five days were trained on two levels of programs, the first is GIS: It is a summary of the geographic information system, which is specialized in drawing geographical maps according to the data collected, and the second surve connect: It is specialized in designing electronic forms and is the most developed globally, as it can be filled electronic forms without the use of the Internet.
Mrs. Zeina Mohamed, one of the participants in the above-mentioned training course from Nineveh branch, said: “This advanced disaster management technology through dealing with maps using computers and transporting them by system (GIS), was used in managing many crises such as the Corona pandemic and the earthquake that occurred in Turkey, through the main dashboard that enables decision makers to have clear visions of all the events that occur in the field, such as the number of victims and their locations and what is the size of the disaster, and it represents an important addition in dealing with disasters.
It is worth mentioning that the above-mentioned course comes within a series of regular courses, as it was preceded by advanced courses to develop the skills of Red Crescent cadres in the field of information collection and dealing with crises in a proper way that helped them to take appropriate decisions at the appropriate times during disasters in the country or any other place.
