Tikret / Mohammed Al-Khuzai

Since the beginning of July within the intensification of the battles at Shirqat/Nineveh governorate, thousands of civilians were forced to flee towards the city of Tikret /Salahluddin governorate in which more than five thousand families has been displaced and were distributed at the public buildings, schools and some structures of homes, while the other of them get to their relatives. On the boundaries between Mosul and Tikrit there isa camp has been established to receive displaced people who travel for long distances so that to reach to safe areas. And due to the continued fighting, these numbers may be rises.
Omar Abdulrahman one of the displaced people,describing the situation of the displaced like so difficult, and he adds that at the difficult security situation in the city of Shirqat and its surrounding villages,many families has displaced toward remote areas from battle,and there are many other families that may displaced from other areas.
Within the growth in the humanitarian challenges of displaced families, the Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) hurried to respond to the needs of them. Since the first hours displacement the IRCS has formed field teams to relief the displaced and to providehealth services.
Ahmed’s mother,one of the displaced from the region, said “ what has been presented by the volunteers is very important in terms of our lives, as our life is depends on what they made like providing water, food, medicine and shelter, that reduces the suffering which we are living”.
The President of IRCS, Dr.Yaseen Ahmed Abbas has supervised on ground relief operations at the city of Tikrit and he said “The IRCSs’ volunteers are best to face the crises which the country has, and they are playing important roles in helping displaced people in all parts of Iraq which is witnessing a difficult humanitarian conditions. And we are keen to continue relief operations as a first responder in the humanitarian field while this requires from us to duplicate the relief and health efforts in order to alleviate the suffering of these families”.
The IRCS responds through its field teams on two levels, the first one is that in the reception camp of displaced people at Al-Haja area, meanwhile the IRCS takes upon itself to provide water, ice and fast food meals.
The IRCS has distributed fast meals to more than (4500) displaced people and (655) ice mold, adding to more than (26) thousand bottledwater and more than (23) thousand loaf of bread .
But in the second level, the IRCSs’ teams helped the displaced families to find shelter and distributed food parcels, the IRCS was able to distribute food parcels to more than (12) thousand displaced people in addition to provide milk to more than (500) child.
All the relief operations of IRCS were accompanied with psychosocial support teams, first aid teams and awareness teams from transitional diseases, ambulances and mobile clinics that helped to detect the patients and treating them at the field or to transfer them to the hospitals.
In this regard Dr.Ali  Majeed, the head of Health Department in IRCS has said “there are a lot of displaced people suffering from psychosocial shocks and a number of injures because of walking for long distances, they are in a real need for first aid and health services. Through this period the psychosocial support teams were able to relief about tens of thousands of displaced people and we are continuous to provide health services so that to face the humanitarian challenge in various health sides.
