In cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has organized a training workshop on how to install an emergency response unit (M5), how to operate and maintain it, also installing water networks in the camps and installing portable bathrooms, with the participation of 22 trainees from the IRCS’s teams,
the workshop began by defining the Sphere standards, which are a set of minimum standards and guiding principles covering four technical areas in the field of humanitarian response (water and sanitation, food security, shelter and human settlements, health services), when applied, these humanitarian standards are a useful tool for planning and implementing humanitarian response, also it provides a solid foundation for defending the rights of crisis-affected communities and ensuring that they live a minimum standard of decency.
According to one of the trainers, Ashraf Ali, the workshop included: “Three main topics, the participants were trained to deal with (Sphere) standards for humanitarian response in emergency situations, that is, to secure the basic supplies and aid needed by one person in the event of an emergency, and to train participants on how to use the (M5) unit, which is a mobile station to provide drinking water for the displaced in the camps and how to maintain it, this unit was joined to the other mobile units of the IRCS in its strategic stock, where a trained team was ready to operate this unit (M5) in all governorates when disasters occurred.
