The President of the International Committee of Red Cross concludes his visit to Iraq in visiting the camps of displaced in the North of Iraq.

The President of the International Committee of Red Cross Mr. Peter Maurer has finished his visit to Iraq, in a common visit with the President of Iraqi Red Crescent Society Dr. Yassen Al-Mamouri to the camps of displaced in Erbil so that to view the human reality and the response to the needs of displaced. Mr.Maurer has participated in the operations of food materials distribution that implemented by the Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) volunteers supported by the International Committee of Red Cross (IRCS) – Iraq delegation.
Mr.Maurers’ visit was highly welcomed by the staff and the President of IRCS because it strength the cooperation among the International Movement Components.
Dr. Yaseen Al-Mamouri said “the IRCS works to respond for the basic needs of displaced supported by its partners from the International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent, in which there is cooperation among these components proves its success. There is a lot of services has been provided that would not be provided without this cooperation, and we are glad of Mr. Maurer`s visit because it is so important to strength that cooperation specially between the IRCS and the ICRC.
Mr. Maurer has expressed his welcome and happiness regarding the cooperation between the ICRC and the IRCS, so he said ”I`m very glad that both side are working together in the field, the challenges has been increased since June 2014, and what we are watching today in the camps of displaced people increases our responsibilities to meet the needs of displaced and to maintain their dignity in time of distress. Whenever the displacement is available, the need becomes increasingly”.

Since the beginning of Mosul operations till now, the number of displaced in the city of Mosul and its surrounding areas has reached 140 thousand people who are deploy in displaced camps at Erbil and southern of Mosul.
The IRCS’s teams and its partners from the ICRC, the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and the Partner National Societies are implementing daily relief operation for displaced, distributing food and relief materials and are opening medical centers and water purification station. As well as to provide first aid and psychosocial support operations in different areas in which displaced are available and in the liberated areas. The volunteers were able to distribute food and relief materials to more than 30 neighborhood and village in different areas of Mosul.
