In collaboration with Imam Al-Kadhim College in the Governorate of Najaf, the Iraqi Red Crescent Society hosted a scientific conference titled “The Scourge of Drugs and Its Effects on Humans Physically, Psychologically, Worldly, Spiritually, and Morally.”
The media coordinator for the Iraqi Red Crescent in Najaf Governorate clarified: “The significance of this seminar comes after the scourge of drugs has become one of the primary issues that are devastating society, in particular young people, where everyone must unite to tackle it, and these activities and introductory seminars are the best starting point for informing our youth at the university about the hazards of the scourge of drugs.”
He stated: “The seminar, which was presented by a number of college students and its teaching staff, addressed two main axes; the first is defining the types of psychotropic substances and the most widespread, and how to identify an addicted person and the health procedures that help get rid of addiction.”
He also added that the second axis addressed how to provide psychological support to addicts and help them get rid of it, how to deal with the addict and manners of avoiding this dangerous scourge, the role of the family and society in treating addiction and avoiding drugs, and the importance of cooperation and solidarity in combating it. However, during the symposium, the Iraqi Red Crescent and its humanitarian role were introduced, in addition to a brief concerning its most prominent activities and the role of the International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
Iraqi Red Crescent Society Is an independent national humanitarian, society whose works to reduce the suffering of people without discrimination, in the time of peace and war, and during the natural and non- natural disasters. IRCS is one of the most effective societies within the International movement of the Red Crescent and Red Cross.
