The Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has launched a health awareness campaign against Foot-and-Mouth disease (FMD) in 18 governorates.
The campaign targeted livestock breeders in rural areas and butchers in public markets, the aim was to raise awareness about the risks of (FMD) and the importance of following proper health procedures when handling meat to prevent the disease, also to protect consumers from potential health risks.
The IRCS teams and volunteers have conducted field visits, encouraging the targeted individuals to cooperate with veterinary teams in order to protect their animals from infection. The campaign also sought to enhance health awareness among them regarding the importance of preventing diseases related to livestock, in addition, the teams have distributed informational posters containing various preventive measures and health tips.
The above – mentioned campaign is part of the IRCS efforts, as one of the supporting bodies of Iraq’s health institutions, to promote public health and food safety. It aims to reduce the spread of communicable diseases and to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
