*Baghdad (ICRC)/ IRCS Follow-up:*

The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Ms. Mirjana Spoljarić, began a two-day visit to Iraq as part of a series of meetings she will hold in the region.

Ms. Spoljarić will meet with senior members of the Iraqi government, members of parliament, judicial officials, and officials from the Iraqi Red Crescent Society to discuss humanitarian cooperation and the challenges facing Iraq and the whole region.

The ICRC has been working in Iraq since the 1980s and has maintained a presence throughout the country's conflicts. Today, the ICRC works with federal and local authorities to meet the humanitarian needs, including improving access to basic services such as healthcare and water, helping families locate missing loved ones, visiting detainees, and addressing the dangerous remnants of unexploded ordnance that continue to pose a threat long after the fighting has ended.
