A teams from The Iraqi Red Crescent Society was able to evacuate more than 100 people trapped in a village at Samarra, and installed three camps to house the displaced people of Tikret

Due to the last security situation that occurred in Salahuddin governorate, after the fall of Mosul, there was a large numbers of families who displaced to different areas they were about (14,000) family, most of the them in the city of Samarra and its towns. Since 01/03/2015 fighting has intensified in the governorate, which led to evacuate of a number of villages, that made the number of displaced people increased and reached recently (700) new family who take from public places, structures and homes of relatives as a temporarily homes, while the Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) installed three camps to house the displaced and provide them with food and relief assistance.
IRCS teams was able to relief and evacuation more than 110 civilians trapped as a result of fighting, Mr.Haider Qassem – from a relief team of IRCS in Salah al-Din said that “The fighting there led to siege number of families in Al-gelam village nearby Tikrit, while a team from IRCS relief them despite of the difficult security situation and to evacuate these families and shelter them in a camp which is for displaced people, adding to distribute food and relief assistance and to support these families psychologically” . While Ahmed Abdel Karim-one of the trapped persons in the village said that “the fighting has intensified in our village and led to siege us and threat the lives of many citizens, but IRCS volunteers evacuate us in a fast time, we could not get out of the village, we really appreciate the great efforts of IRCS that saved the lives of many people”. But Jassim’s mother who had sixty years said that “the very difficult humanitarian situation forced us to leave our homes, but we are still alive because of the help of IRCS team for sheltering us in the camp”

Meanwhile, and in the context of relief operations that carried out by IRCS teams, Mr.Mohammed Alkhozai the Assistant Secretary General for IRCS said “the Iraqi RC teams are helping most of the families that forced to left their homes in Salahuddin and to present more than 1,000 hot meals daily, adding to install many camps to house the new displaced people, as well as distributed number of paramedics to provide first aid and many ambulances so as to help civilians in the conflict zones in a various areas at the governorate.
As well as to coordinate regarding the assistance which provided by donors, and organizations of civil society, while during the last two days more than five thousand families were able to return to their homes after the stability of the security situation there.
