In a muddy land inundated by flood waters which is a few kilometers from the Iraqi-Iranian border, where three volunteers of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) hold humanitarian aid on their shoulders making their way toward scattered homes in the remote village belonging to Qazaniah (124 km) east of Baqubah.
In order to reach those houses, that some of it has collapsed due to the floods, were not an easy task due to the difficulty walking on foot in the muddy land that filled with mines and unexploded ordnance, which swepted away by flash floods to reach the border and to the depth of Iraqi territories.
Mr. Ahmed Obaid, village headman who has 62 years old, said “despite the enormity of what had been happened in the village, we welcomed the volunteers of the Iraqi Red Crescent smiling” he offered them some coffee and called them with colloquial Iraqi language “the group of Red hats” and also said “You are the first one who arrived here to help us”.
The spokesman for the Iraqi Red Crescent Society in Diyala Mr.Haidar Ahmad said “We played a significant role to supporting people during emergencies and disasters, we had basically a humanitarian mission”
Adding “ the Iraqi Red Crescent Society has formed operations center early onset of winter and provided supplies and assistance, the Iraqi Red Crescent Society is working according to plans based on the accumulated experience  to find out the nature of the situation in Diyala mainly and this is the secret of our success”.
He also pointed out that the Red Crescent was the first one to arrive the villages that had been damaged by the floods through operations of relief by air or ground in order to deliver humanitarian aid, as hundreds of food and relief parcels were delivered during the last days of the affected villages and there are some other plans and many support programs will be applied when climatic conditions will be improved.
One of the Iraqi Red Crescent volunteer called Mr. Fuad Hameed expressed his pleased while carrying assistance to the families that  affected by the floods, saying that the humanitarian action in the most beautiful work in the life and fatigue will goes away when I see the smile of child or a prayer  of woman, or even the welcome of old men. Added that the access to remote villages is not an easy task walking in muddy land, but we been managed to overcome the difficulties and reach to the families.
On the other hand, Jabbar Ali, one of the village people said “we call the Iraqi Red Crescent volunteers (red hats group) who are very good and they have already succeeded in reaching to the village. Added that the assistance is necessary but we demand the government to get intervention in order to compensate as we lost everything like our houses that had collapsed, our cattle and sheep has also affected by the recent floods. While to the Director of Gazanih village Akram Mazen, pointed the role of humanitarian organizations in supporting the affected villages by the floods that was very good, including the role of Red Crescent.
While Akram, one of the Iraqi Red Crescent volunteers, added that the arrival to remote villages and providing assistance considered as one of the important things to cover the needs to the afflicted families.
