The Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has organized a celebration on the occasion of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, which is celebrated on 8th of May each year at the Head Quarter in Baghdad.
Dr. Yasin Al-Mamoury, the head of the IRCS said “The efforts of the cadres of IRCS is to achieve the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies goals which is represented by delivering services, food relief assistance and health services to the most vulnerable groups inside and outside Iraq”. He has also praised the role of the IRCS, which exceeded more than 84 years during its work for a long time, in which it provide wonderful humanity services, while the IRCS contributed since its foundation to present aid and assistance to various countries before the calamities that have occurred in Iraq, the matter which make IRCS to provide humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable groups in the province of Iraq.
Al-Mamoury also added that the developmental and social projects aimed to raise the level of vulnerable groups within our community, as the humanitarian projects of the Society has been varied to include all groups in the province of Iraq without discrimination and bias. Since 2014, it have been seen recently a rise in rapid relief and humanitarian response operations which had an impact in the moments that distinguish between life and death, and the interfering of IRCS to the sake of vulnerable groups has contributed to attract a lot of organizations, institutions, agencies and countries for supporting humanitarian work in Iraq, adding to accepting the Society today in all the parts of Iraq that made it the first humanitarian organization which holds relief operation in according to the principles of International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, As this period has witnessed many agreements with number of associations and institutions that inter Iraq for the first time for Iraq through the Iraqi Red Crescent.
At the conclusion of the celebrated, the Society has honored the outstanding of its employees and volunteers for their dedication in the humanitarian work.
