In cooperation with the United Nations Development programme organization (UNDP), the Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has organized represented by the youth section on Saturday, 15 September cleaning and awareness campaigns which cover all of Iraq governorates on the occasion of World Cleanup day.
” This activity comes coinciding with similar activities that took place in more than 150 countries around the world that will collect more than 380 million volunteers.”, said, Dr. Yass Musadaq the head of the youth section in the IRCS.
Yass has indicated that the number of the participants in the above-mentioned campaigns has reached more than 5000 volunteers in both sexes, adding to the participation of the local communities supported by the municipalities departments in all the governorates.
Yass has also added that the IRCS`s teams will monitor the waste sites in different places and remove it supported by the local communities, adding to deliver awareness lectures regarding the hygiene in order to spread the awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy, sustainable environment, and the importance of reuse and recycling the garbage.
The IRCS`s teams have distributed more than 10,000 kilos of trash bags and 10,000 of hand gloves.
The World Cleaning Day is a voluntary day in which different public places are selected and the volunteers are working to clean them.
