With the expansion of the areas devastated by rain torrents and the rise in the number of victims, as well as the displacement of the families of those areas from their homes, the Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has increased its efforts to save and rescue the affected families has mobilized all its human and material potentials, also the teams have taken all the necessary procedures and measures, such as formation of teams for the purpose of urgent intervention for any emergency that may occur due to the torrents.
The IRCS’s relief teams have entered the flood-stricken areas of Salah al-Din, Diyala, Wasit, Diwaniyah, Dhi Qar and Maysan in order to aid the affected families and provide the humanitarian assistance, the teams have also conducted an assessment to the numbers of the affected families in order to identify their needs.
More than 800 affected families living in the villages of the Shirqat district have been registered, where the IRCS’s relief teams have distributed the humanitarian aid to them, they have distributed food parcels and health kit, adding to distribute mattresses and blankets to more than 200 families, and the distribution process continues to include all the affected families.
The IRCS’s health teams have also provided first aid to the injured and transferring the urgent cases to the specialized medical centres, and providing psychological support to alleviate their suffering.
The preparations made by the IRCS are part of a plan to face the threat of rain torrents which is expected to continue in the coming days.
